Do you know that Tuscany has excellent beaches concerning waters with exceptionally good water quality? In fact, 90% of the beaches in Tuscany obtained a certificate from the Region and from the ARPAT (the regional organization for environmental protection) that ensures water quality.
This is very important for our safety and health, but another award that Tuscany obtained in 2012 was the achievement of 16 blue flags (“Bandiere Blu“), that certify the environmental quality of coastal resorts.
This report is drafted by FEE, the Foundation for Environment Education, and awards beaches that have the best environmental policies.
The Tuscan beaches awarded for the environment and the crystal-clean waters begin in Versilia, with Forte dei Marmi, Pietrasanta, Camaiore and Viareggio.
The Pisan coast also gets top marks: Marina di Pisa, Tirrenia and Calambrone; followed by the province of Livorno with Antignano, Quercianella, Castiglioncello and Vada Rosignano Marittimo, Cecina, Marina di Bibbona, Castagneto Carducci, San Vincenzo and the Natural Park of Sterpaia (Piombino).
The list wouldn’t be complete without the sea of the Maremma area, with five places awarded: Follonica, Castiglione della Pescaia, Marina e Principina di Grosseto and Monte Argentario.
