If you are familiar with this name just because you’ve only read it in a super tasty wine bottle’s label, well we recommend you to stop to visit the actual town too, next time you’ll be driving around the Estruscan Coast.
Bolgheri is a little town located in the heart of the Etruscan Coast and not far from Bibbona, it bacame an internationally known region after the great sucess of its special and tasty wines and recently the region gained the DOCG indication.
In 1974 after an important wine event organised by Decanter a 6 year old Sassicaia won over an assortment of Bordeaux wines.
In fact, due to the characteristics of the soil and the micro climate conditions, the grape varieties of Bordeaux origin tend to thrive, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
The Tenuta San Guido that produces Sassicaia is one of the most known “Super Tuscan producers”.
Plus this special Tenuta enjoys the privilege of being part of the famous Giosuè Carducci’s poem “Davanti a San Guido” who lived here from 1838 to 1848.
This town is a real gem, no cars are alloweded inside the walls, the climate is nice and sweet all year long, the streets are surronded by cosy restaurants, trattorias and well decorated wine shops, and all the streets have a female name.
Plus Bolgheri is few Km away from the beach, it’s the perfect relaxing stop after a day lying on the beach, a nice walk eating ice cream or a delicious aperitif with some of its special wines.
