If you are a soul searcher looking for relax and spirituality in Tuscany, then you should go to one of the sanctuaries in the valley of the Casentino. On Mount Penna, a 1,283m massive forest-covered mountain situated in the middle of the Tuscan Apennines, you’ll find La Verna, the place chosen by Saint Francis of Assisi for his spiritual retreats and where he received his stigmata during the summer of 1224.
La Verna is an extermely peaceful but wild place, cool during summer and pretty cold during winter, perfect for a pilgrimage of faith; here the friars built the sanctuary in honour of San Francesco.
After the jump, a slideshow with amazing pictures of La Verna Sanctuary.
