Tuscany's countryside December 2009

If you are thinking about visiting Tuscany why not in the Winter? OK, it’s cold outside (but not as cold as other European’s cities), it’s a rainy season as well, but you’ll have the opportunity to discover an amazing landscape you won’t forget.

I specially love Tuscany’s countryside (in fact I live in Tuscany’s countryside!). The best thing you could ever do is rent a car and get lost around those small roads like SS67 where you have an amazing panorama of the Arno River or like SS222 where you can stop at a winery to try delicious wine, oil, Tuscan ham… Is there any better time to drink red wine than when it’s cold?  And if you are lucky you will be thrilled by Tuscany with snow. It’s simply perfect!

Skiing

If you want to delight yourself with the snow you shouldn’t miss Abetone. It’s located only one hour and a half from Florence, in the Apennines, a mountain range in Italy that extends for 880 miles (1,400 km) from the northwest to the southern tip of the country. There are so many romantic hotels, with excellent food. There are slopes for all kind of skiers: from beginners to experts and of course for snowboard lovers.

Cities of Art

There’s no better time to visit museums than from November to February, specially in a city like Florence. Places are not that crowded and you can delight yourself with all the beauty of Renaissance Art in famous galleries such as Galleria degli Uffizi or Galleria dell’Accademia.

If you have been to Tuscany before or if you simply prefer to visit “new” art places, you could check on TuscanyArts blog. My friend Alexandra, an Art Specialist, writes reviews about all interesting things she visits.

Hope to hear your stories about Tuscany in Winter! Ciao ciao!
