What
Contemporary arts and polical and social thinking: “Declining Democracy. Rethinking democracy between utopia and participation” shows the works of twelve contemporary and international artists in a path that is meant to make people think about social values, contraddictions, and paradoxes that characterize the modern society. The show further addresses the possible declinations of the principles of democracy, which recently is being challenged more and more. On the official web site there is also a deeper analysis of the reasons why this exhibit is needed:
“The artworks on display have themes on the clash between the individual and the community, the growing gap between the average citizen and the political classes, the power and influence of economic lobbies and mass media, the issues surrounding immigration and the refusal of civic and political rights. At the same time, they investigate potential forms of democratic participation enabled by innovations in communication technologies, which have given people new tools with which to broadcast and share opinions”.
These are the Artists: Francis Alÿs (Belgio/Messico), Michael Bielicky & Kamila B. Richter (Germania), Buuuuuuuuu (Italia), Roger Cremers (Paesi Bassi), Democracia (Spagna), Juan Manuel Echavarría (Colombia), Thomas Feuerstein (Austria), Thomas Hirschhorn (Svizzera), Thomas Kilpper (Germania), Lucy Kimbel l (Regno Unito), Cesare Pietroiusti (Italia), Artur Żmijewski (Polonia).
