Fattori: the Macchiaioli painters in Tuscany during the ninteenth and twentieth centuries

An exhibition of the work of Giovanni Fattori, a Tuscan painter from Livorno and one of the leaders of the Macchiaioli group, is being held at Villa Bardini, in Florence. Greatly inspired by his region, he travelled throughout the world bringing Tuscan landscapes, particularly agricultural ones, to many of the artistic cities of the time. From Paris he went to London, before arriving crossing the ocean to America.

Giovanni Fattori often painted his country, from scenes of Florentine citizens to the colours and shapes of the island of Elba. In telling stories of Tuscany through paintings he was not alone at the time: there was also Telemaco Signorini, Giuseppe Abbati, Eugenio Cecconi, Vito D’Ancona, Oscar Ghiglia, Ulvi Liegi and Llewelyn Lloyd.

The exhibition is the result of careful collection by Giovanni Del Greco, and is enriched by contributions from Alessandro Roster and the Olschki family. It will remain open to the public until September 4.
