The territory, especially within the Casentino Forests National Park, is crossed by various itineraries and hiking trails suitable for experts as well as beginners and families, just consider its trail network extended for over 600 km.

An important historical path crosses the Casentino valley: the Via Romea Germanica retraces the footsteps of pilgrims who from the Scandinavian peninsula and central and eastern Europe traveled to Rome. In Tuscany, the route connects the entire territory of Arezzo, passing through Chitignano, Subbiano, Capolona and Arezzo.

Then there is the Sacred Forests Trail, which passes through iconic park sites such as Mount Falterona, Campigna Forest, Acquacheta Valley and the hermitages of Camaldoli and La Verna.

For those approaching hiking, the “Nature Trails” are easy-to-follow itineraries, along which are located observation points equipped with illustrative bulletin boards, ranging from vegetation, fauna, the history of those places.

Road cycling enthusiasts have at their disposal a lot of possibilities around the area; by bike it is easy to visit the most emblematic places and small rural villages by entering directly into their historic center. From the train station in Bibbiena, for example, it is possible to follow the path that leads to the Sanctuary of La Verna and then to Chitignano, or from the village of Poppi you can follow the paved route that reaches the Hermitage of Camaldoli.

Thrill-seekers on MTB can venture along Italy’s most beautiful forest trail that follows the remains of an old railway line from the small town of La Lama to Il Cancellino, in Badia Prataglia. A magnificent ring itinerary, on the other hand, will take you to discover Monte Santo by crossing long stretches in open environments among meadows and pastures.

Medieval castles, Romanesque parish churches, Etruscan excavations and ancient monasteries and convents, such as those of Camaldoli and La Verna, are integrated into an unspoiled Tuscan landscape.

The path of Casentino Golf Club Arezzo A.S.D. is immersed in this extraordinary “green heart of Tuscany” and can be entirely followed from the Clubhouse located at the top of wide terraces surrounded by oak and chestnut groves.

Fishing

Fishing in Casentino is an experience to be lived and told. In fact, Casentino, has become the “capital” of this increasingly popular sport, equipped enough to host the World Trout Fishing Championship from April 4 to 7, 2024, in an evocative setting: the Solano Stream in Castel San Niccolò.
