Fall events for sports lovers

Ideas and tips for experiencing Tuscany outdoors

For lovers of sports and outdoor activities, Tuscany offers many events that let you immerse in the beauty of the landscape and urban areas in a healthy and funny way. Let's find out which events are not to be missed.

On foot or by bike, the paths running through woods and villages are marvelous in the autumn months, thanks in part to the colors of the foliage.

On the first Sunday in October, in Gaiole in Chianti, the Eroica takes place, one of the most popular events for cyclists and non-cyclists: a traditional and at the same time unique race of vintage bicycles, retro clothes, white roads and beautiful Tuscan landscapes, from the Sienese Chianti to the Val d'Orcia.

History and nature lovers can choose a slow-paced route to discover the sights among dirt roads and trails – passing by the most picturesque places in Tuscany - along the Via FrancigenaSiena in October hosts the World Francigena Ultra Marathon, the first European ultramarathon at a trekking and nordic walking pace.

In October, among green hills, ancient villages and picturesque views, the Mugello Marathon is held, the oldest marathon in Italy to run through the Mugello valley and be amazed by the beauty of its nature.

If you love practising sports among the olive trees in the countryside, again in October, you cannot miss the Chianti Classico Ecomarathon in Castelnuovo Berardenga, where the natural beauty of the territory perfectly matches the local food and wine culture.

Absolutely not to be missed is the National Urban Trekking Day in Siena at the end of October. Urban trekking is a form of gentle sport, suitable for all ages and all seasons.
In addition, the itineraries are differentiated by length and difficulty so that both trained and inexperienced people can walk along them.
It is a different way of getting to know the territory, away from the most popular circuits and in a more sustainable way.

The Outdoor Valdicecina festival offers a program of events, excursions, meetings and openings in the Monterufoli and Caselli Nature Reserves.

Even on the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago, autumn is all about the outdoors. In fact, within the Vivere il Parco (Live the Park) program of events is the Walking Festival, which offers evocative trekking excursions and many initiatives on the subject of environmental conservation.
The autumn events take place on Elba Island, Capraia and Giannutri.
