Sea

Crystal clear water, golden sand and rocky coves, hamlets and nature reserves lacked by waves and salty winds

Along five hundred kilometers of soft stretches of sand and enchanting rocky coves, Tuscany plunges into the quiet waves of the Tyrrhenian Sea, surrounding itself with pine forests, hills, mountain ranges, nature reserves, towns and small villages.

The Tuscan sea makes its variety its strength: the long beaches of the Maremma, the lagoon of Orbetello, the characteristic scenery of the Riviera Apuana (Apuan Riviera), with mountains rising just a few steps from the sea, the crystalline blue that embraces the islands.

From the flora of the Parco Regionale Migliarino, San Rossore, Massacciuccoli (Migliarino, San Rossore, Massaciuccoli Regional Park) to the comfortable shores of Versilia and the scenic cliffs of the Livorno area, there is a type of vacation at hand for all tastes and needs. You can relax and enjoy yourself on a sunbed between a swim and another, engage into scuba diving to observe the underwater world, or follow trekking trails scented with Mediterranean maquis.

Nature trails and bicycle paths lead to the sea along the Costa degli Etruschi (Etruscan Coast), where the natural scenery is enriched by precious archeological evidence. And the journey continues in the Parco Nazionale dell’Arcipelago Toscano (Tuscan Archipelago National Park), which encompasses a stretch of sea of over 600 square kilometers, between Livorno and the Argentario promontory, with seven islands that are pearls of natural beauty and an array of rocks and islets.

Gulfs and inlets call to adventure and offer a thousand opportunities for funny activities such as snorkeling, surfing, kayaking or more contemplative moments, discovering cetaceans.

The sea is also the blue horizon overlooked by fascinating villages, bearers of stories, culture and seafaring traditions. Castiglione della Pescaia, Castiglioncello, Castagneto Carducci, Scarlino, Suvereto, Campiglia Marittima and others make you rediscover the pleasure of small things, of strolling at sunset and enjoying a simple coktail or a dinner of typical products, surrounded by piazzas and alleys more beautiful than in a dream.
