You can only do sports fishing in the Tail Water area of the Tiber at the valley’s end after the Montedoglio reservoir or in the Presale stream in Badia Tedalda in the heart of the Nature Reserve of the Alpe della Luna.

However, you can carry out traditional fishing in the Montedoglio Reservoir or in the Tiber river, which starts its water course nearby in Monte Fumaiolo (1,407 m.)

Alternatively, you can choose to fish in the rivers and streams present in the area, such as the Singerna in Caprese Michelangelo, the Sovara in Anghiari, the Marecchia in Badia Tedalda.

Every year, thousands of Italian and foreign fishermen come to the Tiber Valley, attracted by the waters and the countryside of this area.

Visitors are both expert and novice fishermen, who have the possibility of attending training courses with theory and practical lessons with some of the biggest fly-fishing teachers in Italy. By contacting the local associations, like the Mosca Club Altotevere and the Alta Val Marecchia Fly Fishing, you can get informed and updated on courses organized in collaboration with the Italian school of Fly Fishing (S.I.M).

TIBER TAIL WATER
The Tiber Tail Water has been open since 2003, and is managed by the Mosca Club Altotevere. The idea of the Tail Water, the first of its kind in Italy, was born after the construction of the Montedoglio reservoir. The determining factor for the fish was the change in water temperature, which at the bottom discharge area is a constant 6°C, which then stabilizes at 12-15 °C at the level of the town of Sansepolcro.

The fishing season goes from the 1st May to the last Sunday of November, and the river reaches its maximum splendor of biological life in the summer months from June to September.

UPPER MARECCHIA VALLEY: FLY FISHING
The other no-kill fishing is the area of the Presale river in Badia Tedalda, which in 1998, became the first regulated no-kill area of the Tuscan region. It is managed by the Alta Val Marecchia Fly Fishing association, a fly fishing club founded in 1994.

There are stretches of river with pebble bed and strong currents, some are where the valley narrows and the slopes become more evident and others where the valley widens. Near the impressive natural waterfall along the Presalino river, it is difficult to fish but worth trying all the same. It is advisable to use short rods, about 6-7 feet long, light tails, lateral and cut launches and very long finals.

Cost of permits
Membership at the Mosca Club Altotevere is valid for a year and costs €15.00. It gives you a discount of €5.00 on the license cost of the ZRS – Tail Water Tevere. The cost of a daily permit for non-members is €15. There are also concessions for some shops and accommodation.

The bar is at the Agip service station, 100 meters from the exit of the E45 Sansepolcro Sud exit, in the direction of Arezzo. The bar is open from 5am-9pm every day, except Sunday.

When you have crossed the river Tiber, after 200m, turn right towards Anghiari. After approx. 4km, before the traffic lights, you will find the hotel on your left.

For non-members of the club of Alta Val Marecchia Fly Fishing, the prices are as follows: half a day, 1 sector: €15.00; whole day, 1 sector: €20.00; 2 sectors (one in the morning one in the afternoon): €25.00.
For members of the club of Alta Val Marecchia Fly Fishing the prices are as follows: half a day, 1 sector: €10.00; whole day,1 or 2 sectors (one in the morning and one in the afternoon): €15.00
Members of the club of Alta Val Marecchia Fly Fishing can also take advantage of discounts on the A.R.S no-kill tail water Tevere, situated less than 30km from Badia Tedalda.
Members of the Mosca Club Altotevere will receive free membership to the club of Alta Val Marecchia Fly Fishing, and can take advantage of the benefits reserved for members.
