SENZACORNICE – RIVISTA DIGITALE (No Frame – online magazine)

The 'Senzacornice' exhibition will be hosted in the historical Galleria Turchi inside Palazzo di Bianca Cappello. Senzacornice is an online modern art magazine founded by Alessandro Acocella and Caterina Toschi, two young Florentine art historians. The pair wanted to set up an online, and therefore global, art magazine which could become a platform for opinions that fall 'outside the frame' of traditional, institutional thinking about art. The magazine's aim is to provide a space for young art students and artists to contribute freely and to discuss artistic issues and research. The magazine comes out every three months and each edition examines a specific theme from various points of view, taking a multidisciplinary approach including modern art, architecture, cinema, anthropology, literature, philosophy and sociology. One of the magazine's co-founders will be present at the event.

LUIGI CALAMANDREI – Paintings
IL CALAMANDRILLO – Presentation

Both Luigi Calamandrei's paintings and his scholarly essay entitled 'Il Calamandrillo' will be presented at this exhibition. 'Il Calamandrillo' will be introduced by Professor Pier Francesco Listri. The artist was born in 1930 and studied at the Porta Romana Art Institute. After finishing his studies, a friend of his father's introduced him to the Ponziani brothers who ran the most important art restoration workshop in the city at that time. By studying the masterpieces that passed through the workshop almost daily and the restoration of these works of art from all over Italy, Calamandrei began to learn about the techniques and skills used by the old masters. Eventually, he opened his own art studio in a building owned by Contessa Fioretta Mazzei in via dei Serragli. It was around this time that ceramics painter Arnaldo Miniati asked him to work with him to paint a huge canvas for a church outside Prato. Through this friendship, Calamandrei gained membership of the 'Paiolo', an ancient group of Florentine artists. For many years he taught drawing and painting at the Institute of Art and Restoration in Palazzo Spinelli. He received a private commission from the Emir of Qatar but his love for Florence quickly drew him back home. He has given countless exhibitions, although he remembers his first best of all: it was at the beginning of the 1970s when Commendator Gonnelli displayed his paintings in the prestigious Saletta in via Ricasoli.
