ART AND CULTURE
For those who choose to celebrate Women’s Day in the city with a cultural event, Florence is offering several new exhibits that are part of the “Un anno ad arte” event. You can see tapestries, Japanese art, Gothic art, Modern and contemporary art, paintings from the Renaissance and native American work – six major exhibitions are on show at the most important museums of the Florentine Museum network.

Moreover, the Uffizi Gallery, the Museum of Palazzo Vecchio, the Medici Chapels and the Accademia Gallery, the Brancacci Chapel, the Civic Museums in Sarteano, Cetona, Montepulciano, and many other museums, palazzos, monuments, archaeological sites, archives and state libraries throughout Tuscany are offering free admission to all women. Pistoia is hosting “Le donne reggono il mondo,” which includes eleven events between March 1 and March 30. There will be discussions, book presentations, poetry readings, musical performance and projection, all of which will shed light on the contribution of women to contemporary society.

In Versilia, in Forte dei Marmi and Pietrasanta on March 5, 9 and 18 there will be “Events for Women,” a cycle of free events dedicated to women. On March 5 there will be “Woman Musician” in Forte dei Marmi - a concert for soprano and piano at Villa Bertelli at 5:30pm. SPORTS
For athletic women, or those who want to learn about sailing and spend a wonderful day in company or just to relax with friends, the sailing association in Versilia, Mure a Dritte, is organizing an introduction to sailing, from March 8 to the end of the month. We’ll sail pass enchanting towns all the way to Lerici, where we will stop for lunch on board, to relax, chat and learn about the sea and sailing from the skipper. From Lerici we will sail across the Gulf to Porto Venere and Palamaria, which offer beautiful vistas of rare beauty. From the Channel of Porto Venere we will sail on to Marina di Carrara, where we might even run into a school of dolphins playing around the boat. For information, contact: www.mureadritta.net

And that’s not all. For those people interested in a longer vacation you can take advantage of B&B Day on March 3. Now in its second year, this event returns to Italy and Tuscany to celebrate Bed and Breakfasts, offering the night of March 3 for free to those who are interested in spending a weekend in cozy, homey surroundings.
