In the course of his long career, James Taylor has won 5 Grammy Awards, had 40 gold records in addition to many platinum ones, and in 1998 won the Century Award—the highest honor bestowed by the American Billboard Magazine. In 2000 he was admitted to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame as well as into the prestigious Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. In 2011, the magazine Rolling Stone listed him among the 100 Best Musical Artists of All Time. On September 11 he was invited by President Obama to perform during the ceremony at Ground Zero commemorating the 10-year anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center—he touched all with his moving acoustical performance of “You Can Close Your Eyes,” composed in 1971.
