Archaeology Nights is Back!

Events and Special Visits at Parks and Museums in Tuscany

Archaeology Nights brings together new, old and contemporary. The 2012 show is rich in events and surprises. Six perfomances with big names from theater, dance and culture will perform in some of the most beautiful places in Tuscany, including Cortona, Sovana, Populonia and the Parco Archeominerario in San Silvestro.  Margherita Hack, Silvio Orlando, Valerio Massimo Manfredi, David Riondino and many other famous people will be present at the events in July.

Tuesday July 10 at the Parco Archeominerario of San Silvestro in Campiglia Marittima, Margherita Hack and Ginevra Di Marco will perform "L'anima della terra vista dalle stelle"

Tuesday July 17 at the Parco Archeologico of Baratti and Populonia in Piombino there will be a performance of "Kore", a performance about femininity and transformation.

Sunday July 22 at the Fortezza Medicea del Girifalco in Cortona: Silvio Orlando will be "Orlando in Purgatorio" a show of Dantesque inspiration. 

Wednesday July 25 Versilia Dance will perform "E l'uomo creò se stesso. In principio erat...verso la luce" a dance performance about the evolution of man.

Sunday, July 29 in the picturesque setting of the Archaeological Park of Sorano, Riccardo Tesi & Banditaliana will hold a concert.

Tuesday, July 31 in the Square in the Praetorium Sovana, Valerio Massimo Manfredi, David and Paul Riondino Bessegato perform  in "Ulysses, the mystery of the second voyage," inspired the eleventh canto of the "Odyssey."

During the event, don't miss CIAK, the first international  cinema festival of archeology organized by Archeologia Viva e dalla Rassegna Internazionale del Cinema Archeologico di Rovereto. Filmgoers can vote the best film and the winner of the festival will be awarded a prize by Valerio Massimo Manfredi.

July 14 Notte dell'Archeologia will offer free entrance to associated museums.

July 3-19, in Florence there will be "Narrated Archaeology" a show at the Archaeological Museum that combines poetry with archaeology.

July 6-21
will celebrate ArcheoFest, a celebration of the archaeological heritage of Italy. Chiusi, Chianciano Terme, Sarteano, Montepulciano, Cetona, Trequanda will celebrate that science for which they have been famous since the Renaissance. Don't miss Saturday July 7 at the Archaeological Museum of Chianciano Terme the inauguration of the exhibition "De Chirico. The belly of the archaeologist" featuring masterpieces of this great artist compared to the traces of history. Open until September 30.

There will be a further 200 initiatives in Tuscany, including tours, visits, events, shows, walks, and workshops for adults and children. Ancient times will never have seemed so alive. Tuscany welcomes you this year with special offers during the period of the festival, including special food and wine tastings (see the programme below). More than ever, "Archaeology Nights" offer visitors the opportunity to see unique things, places and events.
