The excitement of a journey from ancient flavour on routes of the pastembraces the fascinating discovery of the most precious treasures of the Sienese: winkles vintage and historic steam trains depart along the former railroad route that offers beautiful art, nature and tastes of Crete, Amiata e Val d’Orcia.
A relaxing journey by train crossing the southern countryside of Siena along a line closed to traffic more than 20 years ago and then reopened as a tourist railway for its high environmental and landscape value, thanks to a project by the Province of Siena. An old-fashioned style of travel that leads visitors to an area to discover and admire.
The nature train along the Asciano – Monte Antico railroad, closed to ordinary traffic since September 1994, and reopened for tourism, through a unique series of itineraries that reveal the natural jewels of the Sienese territory. On the steam train or railcars period you can also get off at various stations to venture along paths to reach churches, villages and castles. This is also the most suitable for those who want to combine your trip with other activities such as hiking, cycling, visiting museums, or enjoying wine and food on farms.
Special trains will travel to many events, festivals, activities and attractions including: from the festival in Castiglione d'Orcia, April 25, a trip with an old locomotive in the heart of Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO world humanity. A wonderful journey into history and local products. (Departs at 9,00. Returns at 18,00).
Do not miss the excursion to the Maggiolata Sant'Angelo Scalo on May 1, where travelers will be surrounded by music, stalls and great food. The program also includes guided tours to Banfi wineries for wine tasting and local produce and display the “Maggiaioli folklore group” and marching bands through the streets of the country where there is a market place. (Departs at 9:45. Returns at18:10).
Among the initiatives also scheduled the event for excellence dedicated to the king of the flavours of the region: the pecorino from Crete with the Festival of Cheese in Asciano scheduled for May 8. Benches dedicated to the famous cheese and other local products will flood the country with a tasting of sheep and goat cheese of Crete, paired with local wines. Do not miss "The chain of cheese: the product, " a demonstration of making cheese from raw material to finished product (Depart Siena at 9:00 and return to Siena at 18:00).
Another great event scheduled is in Torrenieri for May 15with the Party of the Train. In the streets, there will be a display and sale of food products, organic and local crafts. (Departs Siena at 9:30 and returns to Siena at 18:16).
