To celebrate his eightieth birthday, Colombian artist Fernando Botero has decided to bring life to Pietrasanta in Versilia with a large show of his work entitled "Fernando Botero: sculptor and draughtsman". It will be held from July 7-September 2. "The show will unravel in the center of town, along the streets that the artist and his family enjoy every year," said the mayor, Domenico Lombardi, with great pride and enthusiasm.
Ever since the Seventies, the artist has enjoyed a close link to the city. In 2000 he was made honorary citizen. In various areas of the city, and especially in the piazza near the Duomo, Botero will present six or seven monumental bronzes, while 10 of his sculptures will be in the church of Sant'Agostino together with a series of watercolors on canvas made especially for the show and therefore unseen in public before.
Also new are the series of 40 drawings which he did in the Seventies and which will be presented to the public in the cloisters of Sant'Agostino. A total of 100 works will tell the artist's story through past and present. Don't miss this event. All shows will be free to the public.
