Arezzo dresses up for Notte Rosa

July 20 Teresa De Sio in concert

It’s a “Notte Rosa” for women, but not just for women. Just like that, the provincial consigliere for equal opportunities Carla Borghesi describes the philosophy that defines this year’s eighth edition of the event that will take place on Friday, July 20th thanks to the joint effort of the Province, City Council and Chamber of Commerce of Arezzo.

Even with the ongoing financial crisis, the “Notte Rosa” is an intrinsic part of the city and of the community - explains provincial councilor for culture and arts Rita Mezzetti Panozzi. On July 20th the night sky is predicted to have a black moon, which means that it will be completely cast in shadow, and will rise and set with the sun, at a time when it is most potent, intimate and precious. The moon cycle indicates a rebirth, a transformation, and the chance to end a chapter and begin a new one. It is in honor of the theme of regeneration that we dedicate the event as an act of solidarity to the region and the people of Emilia Romagna, hit hard by the recent earthquakes.

A special outreach goes to the small town of San Possidonio where the Civil Service volunteers are hard at work.

Finally, some more about the event taking place: there are over 30 associations and organizations involved in the “Notte Rosa” including 20 fixed points around the city where events will take place, graced by musical notes and many other kinds of displays of artistic creativity, like the concert of Teresa De Sio in piazza Grande”. The Neapolitan artist will not only perform in concert but will also take up the chance to present her film “Craj”, dedicated to popular music, and will be shown at the Teatro Pietro Aretino at 9:00 PM.

“This initiative is very important to us given the space we dedicate to arts and culture” highlights the councilor Carla Borghesi, while the President to the Provincial Commission of Equal Opportunities Rosetta Roselli reminds us of the photography exhibition “Corpo femminile e pubblicità”, based on the theme of the female body and advertisement. The “Notte Rosa” is not only a chance to celebrate and come together, but  also a time to consider and value the role of women in society – declares Stefania Magi. The female image is almost always associated with beauty.

But if it is true that women are beautiful then it is necessary to have the female presence in many other branches of the workforce to see the changes necessary in our community. Representing the Chamber of Commerce is Anna Lapini, who reminds us of her involvement in this initiative since its beginning: “As an entrepeneur I have always seen this event as a chance to bring life to this city, and I must say that this year I am quite happy that Piazza Grande has been chosen as host of the most important event of the “Notte Rosa”.

At the close of the press conference the preliminary schedule with the evening’s events was revealed. “That which we have already planned will certainly take place, but there will also be a few surprises popping up, and we are working on these now”, concludes artistic director Antonietta Milani, who announces that even on July 20th beginning at 7:00 PM, parking at Mecenate Parking will be free of charge, thanks to arrangements made with Atam.
