The Grey Cat Jazz Festival returns to Tuscany for its 32nd edition. The festival is a meeting point for the top jazz musicians on a national and international level and emerging artists.
This summer’s edition boasts of a rich and eclectic lineup. On Tuesday August 7 in Monterotondo (Piazza Casalini) let yourself be transported by the warm and inviting sounds of “On the way to Damascus”, a fascinating musical project performed by the Luigi Campoccia Quartet.
Following this set is Noa (Wednesday August 8 at Parco di Pietra/Cava di Roselle in Grosseto) the well known Israeli singer pays tribute to our land with “Noapolis”, a project dedicated to the city of Naples and its traditional and everlasting music.
The Fantomatik Orchestra, directed by Stefano Scalzi, will go on stage on Thursday, August 9 at the Piazza a Mare in Follonica and debut its new “Back in brass”, while on Saturday August 11, a fizzy and exciting evening in Gavorrano with the band Gatti Mezzi e Matti delle Giuncaie.
Another important international appearance is that of the Brazilian singer Tania Maria (Sunday, August 12 at the Teatro Le Ferriere in Follonica), powerful voice and instrumental in infusing jazz harmonies with latin music,while Fabrizio Bosso(Wednesday August 15 at the Castello of Scarlino) will perform at the Grey Cat with his unique solo project “Spiritual” accompanied by the organ.
Following is the young Swiss guitarist Sandro Schneebeli (Thursday, August 16 at the Parco Fonte di Vandro di Sassofortino) guest of one of the most famed festivals in Switzerland and on Friday the 17, along the roads of Castiglione della Pescaia an exhibition of the Magica Boola.
As an addendum to Stefano Cantini’s project “Living Coltrane”, a special guest appearance by Enrico Rava on Saturday, August 18 in Piazza Garibaldi in Massa Marittima with interventions by actress Daniela Morozzi with who will perform texts selected specifically for the occasion.
Another project that has been well received by audience and critics alike is the “giornale di bordo” by Antonello Salis (Sunday, August 19 in Piazza Giovanni Paolo II in Orbetello) while for the last two evenings of the festival Barbara Casini will perform with the Caxanga quartet dedicated to Milton Nascimento (Thursday, August 23 at the Cassero Senese of Grosseto) and finally Luigi Tessarolle and Taufic will perform as a guitar duo on Friday August 24 at the Spiaggia di Levante in Follonica).
As in preceding editions of the Grey Cat Festival, the positive energy and capacity to join together some of the most interesting musical talents of the region will result in a most entertaining and memorable lineup of performances that cannot be missed! You can count on the festival to bring you great music in some of the most enchanting sites of the Maremma region lasting all August long.
