Videominute Pop

The festival is usually held in the first week of September in Prato

Videominuto is an international show of videos of the maximum length of 1 minute that takes place every year at the Centro per l'Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci in Prato. The Festival is organised by the Tuscan radiophonic broadcasting station Controradio, by the Luigi Pecci Center for Contemporary Art mentioned above and by the cultural association GRAV in collaboration with the Province and the Commune of Prato. The idea of the Festival is to investigate to what extent the brevity of the film format, the only fixed rule, conditions the work in terms of incisiveness, stylistic choice and content. Time runs short, especially in video. You need to be swift, concise and effective.

60 seconds can be enough to elaborate video-cards, notes for future full-length films, aphorisms, philosophical considerations, mini-dose documents, adverts, hypotheses – all in one minute. Videominuto offers to authors, to the widest range of diverse subjects possible, sixty seconds in which they can freely and openly deal with topics going from the social document to current events, from video-art to electronics and pure experimentation. The video-minute is a multi-platform format, suitable for web-streaming, as an interval between television programme schedules and in the programming of digital-satellite channels. Above all, the video-minute is an appealing format that has become fashionable for its simplicity, its feasibility (both from a technical and economic point of view) and democratic nature as seen in its providing the possibility for practically anyone to realise their own mini-film.

Videominuto takes on the form of an event within the environment of the Luigi Pecci Centre for Contemporary Art, organised as a live TV programme (with a TV presenter), in which the works, installations and performances are introduced by signature tunes, commercial breaks and bumpers. Images are transmitted simultaneously on cinematographical maxi-screens, monitor screens and video-walls.
