This year Pistoia Blues is opening with a bang of the cult groups of the nineties. Skunk Anansie, the British band that topped the radio charts for several months is playing for the first time on stage at the Pistoia Blues Festival kicks off on July 8. The festival will open with Skin, playing their new songs and the best of their repertoire.
July 9 begins with Skapestrati (group winners of the Contest Destinazione Capoliveri Blues), followed by Michael Benforti & Hot Love Trio, Willie Nile (American folk blues guitarist), the General Stratocuster and the Marshals (the Florentine classic rock combo). Next will be Robben Ford, a talented guitarist who, in his long career, has worked with the likes of George Harrison and Miles Davis. The famous duo Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger, guitarist and keyboardist of The Doors will be celebrating with a repertoire entirely dedicated to the historic band and the death of their charismatic frontman Jim Morrison.
Finally Lou Reed returns to Italy after four years on July 10.
These are the big stars scheduled to appear at Pistoia Blues 2011, in Piazza del Duomo from July 8 to 10.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the death of Jim Morrison, there will be an exhibition with never before seen photos by Michelle Campbell, the official photographer of The Doors, as well as videos and other memorabilia. In addition, this year, the Pistoia Blues Festival will be the first 'pet friendly' festival, opening up areas designated for visitors with animals.
