"Marzo Marzuolo": a month of truffle

Don’t miss the many events dedicated to truffle in the heart of the Sienese Crete

Every year an extraordinary event is held to celebrate one of the most delicious foods of the Siena area: the Marzuolo Truffle. In the splendid backdrop of the Sienese Crete, the “March Marzuolo” truffle festival lasts one month and includes a host of tastings and dishes based on this prestigious tuber.

Running from March 6 to April 5, in San Giovanni d’Asso, the Marzuolo festival and fair will feature numerous stands and traditional dishes and products based on this type of truffle. Truffle lovers can even try digging up a truffle alongside an expert hunter from Siena during the festival.

On March 7, a collateral event has been organized with the “Nature Train” that will take visitors from Siena to San Giovanni d'Asso, aboard an old steam-engine train. Also, for the entire month of March, fresh Marzuolo truffles will be sold at the Siena Truffle Association. Moreover, a host of free truffle tastings will be organized in local restaurants.

On all Sundays in March, tastings and events will be organized at the Museo del Tartufo (Truffle Museum), located inside the town’s castle. Visitors should also visit the Romanic church of San Giovanni Battista, as well as the San Pietro in Villore church (from the XI - XII centuries).

It also recommended that visitors go to the beautiful nearby hamlet and castle of Monterongriffoli, in the fraction of Vergelle.
