Gallicano Bridge

This ‘Pontaccio’ (old and broken-down bridge) spans the Turrite Cava stream at Gallicano

It is a footbridge with a single round arch and, as its name implies, has long been in a poor state of preservation. During the 2004 restoration, promoted by the Parco Regionale delle Alpi Apuane (Regional Park of Apuan Alps) in cooperation with the Municipality of Gallicano, bearing structure consolidation was carried out together with the re-construction of the parapets and the restoration of stone surfaces. The arch span is 11m, and the keystone is placed 5 m above the stream level. The bridge was built by local masons with stones drawn out of the river bed in the 14th century.
