Florence’s Villa Pandolfini Carducci

This fifteenth century villa is situated in the plain the lies between Legnaia and Soffiano along the old Via Pisana. In the 1450s, it was decorated by frescos created by Andrea del Castagno, the painter born in Castagno in 1421, who died in Florence at the end of the 1450s. His noteworthy cycle depicts illustrious men. These paintings were later detached from the loggia which was transformed into a grand hall. Said figures of famous men can now be seen at the Uffizi. Part of the frescos, including several figurative scenes (the Virgin and Child, Adam and Eve), were not detached, however, and can still be seen in the villa itself, which became state property in 1952.
