The Church of San Michele Arcangelo

Discovering one of Cinigiano’s spiritual gems

As you walk through the historic center of Cinigiano, a unique medieval hamlet, you’ll see the Church of San Michele Arcangelo. Though small, this architectural gem should not be underestimated. Its structure was rebuilt at the end of the XVI century with the construction of its brick façade and central decorative rose window.

Inside, you’ll find many significant works including two paintings by artist Francesco Vanni: ‘Saint John the Baptist with the Virgin and Child giving the scapular to Saint Simon Stock’ and ‘The Crucifixion with Saints Francis, Mark and Sigismondo’. The church’s main nave is decorated with two elegant altars where you can see Daniele Lonati’s ‘Madonna of Grace’ and ‘The Trinity with Angels’ by the Nasinian School.
