The University of Pisa Palaeontology Collection

A collection of archaeological finds

The University of Pisa Palaeontology Collection (Collezione Paleontologica dell'Università degli Studi di Pisa ) consists of materials and artifacts from the Regnoli collection. Regnoli was a Pisan doctor who, in 1867, carried out the first archaeological digs in the caves of Versilia and Mount Pisano. This original prehistoric collection has been enlarged over the years with finds from various digs all over the country and includes artefacts that date from the Palaeolithic Age to the Bronze Age. There are also examples of prehistoric works of art and a large selection of animal remains unearthed during archaeological digs. These animal remains have gone a long way in helping archaeologists to understand what the world was like thousands of years ago.
