Siena area, Abbadia San Salvatore, Museum of the Abbey

The collection is composed of reliquaries, fabrics, jewelry, frescoes and majolica ceramics

The Abbey was built in the Lombard era and appeared in an official document for the first time in 762. It was rebuilt in the 11th century in a Roman style and was renovated and restored several times in the centuries that followed.

The museum was permanently opened following a temporary exhibit on San Marco. It displays several liturgical treasures from the ancient abbey and from churches in the area. Among the most important pieces in the collection are the liturgical furnishings of the ancient monastery and a fragment of majolica from the Madonna of Castagno di Abbadia Sanctuary.

Opening hours: from July 15 to August 31, from 10am-12:30pm and 4pm-7:30pm. Closed Mondays. In other periods, visits can be booked.
Price: Free entrance.
