The Renaissance Ring

A 170-km trail around Florence

The aim of this extraordinary excursion option is to offer visitors and locals the chance to discover Florence and its surrounding area, which is full of natural treasures and artistic gems. The Renaissance Ring stretches for over 170 kilometers and it is perfect for both beginners and experts—either on foot or by mountain bike. The trail is currently being developed based on Florence’s ancient road network, which is mostly unpaved.

Vertical and horizontal signposts and trail markings will guide the traveler; Florence can be reached by public transport during each leg of the journey. Nestled amidst stunning landscape, including forests, hills and cultivated fields, you’ll find monasteries, castles and hostels which once provided food and shelter to pilgrims.

Many of the paved roads were built in the Roman times and the medieval age; myriad times during your hike, you’ll have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of Florence’s Duomo and its masterful dome by Brunelleschi. The APT Florence has published a guide-map describing the Renaissance Ring trail. To see complete map, please click here.
