Take a journey through the medieval towns and pristine green landscape of the Etruscan coast. Visitors will feel welcome here in one of the most beautiful areas of our peninsula. Ancient medieval towns still dot the countryside and there is a cosy atmosphere that exudes genuine goodness. Visitors won’t want to miss a magical trip along the roads that wind through the heart of the Etruscan coast region. Vineyards covered these hills as far back as the 1400s, yet the area's wine culture truly began in the ‘60s when the Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta Sassicaia invented one of the most popular Cabernet wines in the world.
The other Cabernet which has become the pride and joy of this noble land, is the Ornellaia, created by Lodovico Antinori. In the gentle hills of Bolgheri, Sassicaia and Ornellaia, you can find splendid territories which produce high quality wine.

These three DOC zones are Montescudalo, Bolgheri and Val di Cornia. This ‘wine road’ could also be called the ‘oil road’. Olive oil, which is also produced in the region, is one of many products that has always characterized Mediterranean cooking, along with honey, cheese, traditional bread and organically grown fruit and vegetables.
