Forte dei Marmi, which grew up around an 18th century fort built by Leopoldo I of Tuscany, offers its visitors a stunning beach with clean, crystal-clear waters and tree-shaded boulevards which are perfect for spending an afternoon on your bikes with friends and family.
If you are departing from Marina da Pietrasanta (Fiumetto, Tonfano, Motrone, Focette) take Viale Morin (the extension of the central Via Carducci) to Via Nizza which serves as the border between Forte dei Marmi and Pietrasanta.
If you are departing from the center of Forte dei Marmi take a moment to admire Piazza Garibaldi: the statue of Victory by Arturo Dazzi; the marble fountain; and the magnificent jetty. Take this jetty to the coastal road and continue along it, passing Piazza Marconi and then taking Viale Morin to Via Nizza.
At the end of Via Nizza turn left on to Via della Barbiera, which runs parallel to the coast. Take Via della Barbiera past the traffic lights on a small stretch which leads towards the sea along Via dell’Acqua. Continue until you arrive at Via Padre Ignazio da Carrara where you have to make a choice: if you head to the left you’ll arrive in the commercial centre of Vittoria Apuana, the northernmost suburb of Forte dei Marmi.
Here you can admire the monument of Santo d’Assisi which was placed in front of the church of San Francesco by Arturo Dazzi and explore the residential neighbourhoods on your right. If you head right, on the other hand, you will arrive in the former Lago di Porta zone, an area prized for its nature and protected by a number of laws which ensure its preservation. There is an international golf course here.
