A spiritual journey along the Via Francigena

Applying for a ‘Pilgrim’s Credential’

The Pilgrim’s Credential is a personal document that pilgrims on the Via Francigena fill out during their journey as a souvenir of the road travelled. By presenting this document to participating parishes and municipalities, pilgrims can receive a special stamp. You can receive your own personal ‘credential’ by writing to the Associazione Europea delle Vie Francigene (Piazza Duomo, 16 - 43036 Fidenza (Pr). Applicants must include a self-addressed envelope including stamps with a value of 5.35 euro, which cover the cost of sending a registered letter. Expect the letter to arrive at least 10 working days after the receipt of your request.

Credentials can also be personally picked up at the Municipality of Fidenza’s Tourist Office in piazza Duomo 16. Applicants are required to present their identity cards. The office is open from 9am to 12pm and 3pm to 5.30pm. Credentials can also be picked up free of charge at the following spots: the Ospizio del Gran San Bernardo, the Association ‘La Via Francigena di Sigerico’ in Ivrea, Fornovo di Taro’s Tourism Office, and the Tourism Offices of the Municipality of Bagnone’s and the Municipality of Monteriggioni. Contacts: AEVF: Tel. +39 0524 517513, Tel. +39 0524 517380, Fax +39 0524 517501; IVT: Tel. +39 0524 83377, Fax +39 0524 519159

In France, pilgrims can apply for a credential at the Association des Pèlerins de Compostelle et de Rome: ass-pèlerinscompostellerome@hotmail.fr.

Pilgrims who have completed at least 100 km on foot are eligible to receive a special ‘Testimonium’ by presenting their credential to the Office of San Pietro dell’Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi. Anyone who would like to embark on this spiritual adventure by bus or by car, has the chance to receive in-depth information thanks to a series of especially produced catalogs, available at the above-mentioned welcome point. Here, pilgrims can also apply to participate in the itineraries spotlighted in the catalog ‘I Cammini d’Europa’. For more information, contact: Ufficio San Pietro, tel. +39 06 69885800
