Marsiliana Nature Reserve

The reserve is home to Maremma horses and cows

Run by the Corps of Forest Rangers, the Marsiliana reserve covers an area of about 450 hectares, almost all of which is contained in the Interprovincial Park of Montioni. The objectives of this reserve consist mainly in the preservation and enhancement of the local vegetation and natural habitats, the maintenance of the biodiversity and safeguarding of the wild fauna. The terrain is hilly with an average altitude of 120-180 metres above sea level, characterised by farmland alternating with natural vegetation composed of deciduous sclerophyllous plants. The pilot project for preservation and development of the Maremma equine and bovine breeds is particularly worthy of note. The Reserve is open to visits only after booking.
