Blue flags flies high in Tuscany once again. In 2011 16 Tuscan beaches have been awarded the prestigious flag for clean water and pristine sand by the Foundation of Environmental Education (FEE).

Like every year the Etruscan Coast was awarded with blue flags. In this area you'll find an array of beautiful beaches, from the Livorno seaside to the Sterpaia Nature Park (Riotorto-Piombino), Antignano, Quercinella, Castiglioncello, and Vada in Rosignano Marittimo to the more poetic locations like Cecina, Marina di Bibbona, Castagneto Carducci and San Vincenzo.

The blue sea of the Maremma was also honoured this year. Enjoy excellent beaches extending from Follonica and descending towardsCastiglione della Pescaia, Marina di Grosseto and Principina of Grosseto until the fantastic silver coast of Monte Argentario.

CRITERIA
The FEE criteria focus on water quality, environmental information and education, environmental management, safety, cleanliness, provisions for waste and recycling, and strict zoning of different beach activities. FEE recognition promotes those swimming areas that foster sustainable tourism by safeguarding the environment through local policies and public awareness.
