Casentino, Stia, history of wrought iron welding

"National Biennial Exhibition of Metalwork" in Stia was organised to celebrate the ancient tradition of working wrought iron. The biennial event has succeeded in establishing a widespread national and international network of ironmongers. The exhibition gathers together as many different examples of working wrought iron as possible, both from Italy and other countries. The different exhibitors display their work and methods and also participate in a competition which brings together ironmongery skills, art and culture. This heavy, grey metal takes on a whole new and lighter meaning at the exhibition, which is now in its twenty fifth year.
