The train travels by ancient towns and mesmerizing landscapes. Passengers can get off at small stations to discover the area's medieval hamlets, churches and castles, or go trekking along footpaths that cross through the countryside and stop for a wine or food tasting in farms or shops. There are many local food festivals where visitors can stop, as well.

Old Steam Train – There are ordinary days in which passengers can ride on a steam train; passengers can get and off at their leisure, to attend food festivals or wine tastings, wit the same ticket. It is the best train to take for those who want to discover the area's hidden gems or combine with sports activities, like trekking, bike excursions or museum visits.
Train & Museums: Itineraries in Siena Museums – The Nature Train route gives passengers the chance to stop in certain towns to go to the museum. Thirty-four museums comprise the Siena Museum Network and give visitors a better idea of the unique Sienese identity. Not only precious archeological artifacts of Etruscan origins, but also a host of masterworks from the Middle Ages to the Modern Era. Popular traditions and local folklore and rural life are also given ample space in these museums.
Train & Trekking – Passengers can also stop to go trekking while travelling on the Nature Train. Passengers can make stops at numerous stations along the Siena - Asciano - Torrenieri - Monte Amiata - Monte Antico route and find a wealth of footpaths to take. At these stations, passengers can follow one of the many trekking paths, both long and short, and return in the afternoon to take the Nature Train back to their original departure station.
Train & Bike – An excursion by bicycle to reach the thermal baths or a wine tasting. Cyclists can stop to have a chat with a shepherd en route to a local farm to learn how to make pecorino cheese... All this and more can be experienced by combining bicycles with the Nature Train. One special cycling itinerary is the route of 'Eroica' vintage bikes race, which is fully marked with signage and meanders for 200km through the Terre di Siena, through the Chianti, the Sienese Crete and the Val d'Orcia.
