The route starts in the centre of Colle Val d’Elsa in piazza Arnolfo di Cambio. From there, head towards San Gimignano. At La Grazie turn right following directions for Borgatello and later for San Gimignano, passing by Pietrafitta to avoid the busy road which is the most direct route to the town.

After a tour around the walls of the tower-filled town leave in the direction of Castel San Gimignano – Volterra. On this undulating road we recommend a short detour to San Donato, a medieval town with a beautiful Romanesque church. At Castel San Gimignano, turn left and take the road to Colle Val d’Elsa (11.2 km) on the SS 68, passing by Campiglia dei Foci.
