The Bust of Giacomo Puccini
An artwork by Paolo Troubetzkoy
At Torre del Lago in Viareggio, in the splendid backdrop of Villa Puccini, there is a monument that was made by Paolo Troubetzkoy dedicated to Giacomo Puccini. Troubetzkoy was a Russian artist (1866-1937) who lived in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Paris, Milan and Lago Maggiore. He sought a quick and impressionistic representation of his subjects and reality in general. In the work dedicated to Puccini, the Russian sculptor revised the disordered poetic, he sought out a balance between the person he was depicting and the surrounding environment in which the artwork was immersed. Measuring himself against the work of first teacher, Giuseppe Grandi, and mainly against the paintings of Tranquillo Cremona and Daniele Canzoni, Troubetzkoy creates a truly emotional artwork.
