Discover Tuscany's National Parks with the Walking Festival
The Islands, the Coastline; Beautiful Views and Great Food
Spring marks the 4th annual Tuscan Coast & Islands Walking Festival, which takes place in the National Parks network of the Archipelago and the Val di Cornia.
Between April 6 to May 6 the focus will be on the constellation of splendid islands between Corsica and Tuscany, which offer beautiful wilderness hikes as well as fascinating geological history, not to mention stories of people who have dealt with the hardships of life on the islands, working with stones or metals, for the past thousand years. The National Park includes Gorgona, Capraia, Elba, Pianosa, Montecristo, Giglio and Giannutri. The area is surrounded by a Whale and Dolphin Sanctuary.
From April 21 to 27 the focus will be on mainland Val di Cornia. This area represents the westernmost outpost of the Etruscan civilization, a piece of coastland that looks out over Elba. Once inhabited by the Etruscan people, the heritage of this area is rich in terms of geology, archaeology and culture. Highlighted by the European Council and winner of the Best Walking Tour Award, the park system offers a heterogenous network of tours through five different municipalities, bringing together coastline, hillsides, history, nature, good food, and excellent quality for a unique experience, far from the maddening crowd.
