Origins and development

The municipality of Chiesina Uzzanese has been autonomous since 1963. Located in the Province of Pistoia, it currently hosts a population of 4,000 people. Its name comes from the ancient parish church of Santa Maria della Neve, built around the middle of the nineteenth century. The origins of the village date back to the thirteenth century, when it became a resting place for travellers journeying along two ancient crossroads of Etruscan and Roman origins. At that time, however, the surrounding landscape was rather unhealthy, because of its proximity to the Fucecchio swamplands. ...
